Position will be located in Moab, Utah working on the Colorado Plateau in southeastern Utah.
- New predictive mapping techniques that utilize machine learning and AI have spurred rapid changes in how soil resources are developed and delivered. The goal of this position is to develop the tools necessary to utilize these recent advances in soil resource information to generate state-of-the-art land use and management interpretations. Anticipated land use and management interpretations include: wind erosion susceptibility, hydrologic soil group, a soil vulnerability index, and valley fever (Coccidioides) habitat.
- Collaborate with soil scientists in academia and federal agencies to analyze and resolve issues with current and planned systems and workflows as related to the integration and management of soil pedon data to develop continental wide digital soil mapping models and develop script-based toolboxs to generate land use and management interpretations. Conduct research to determine the best course of action to clean and correct data from multiple databases. Analyze and interpret patterns in complex pedon datasets from multiple sources.
Provides expertise to acquire, manage, manipulate, and analyze data and report results.Classification Standard Duties
Identifies problematic areas and conducts research to determine the best course of action to correct the data. Analyzes and resolves issues with current and planned systems as they relate to the integration and management of data. Analyzes reports of data duplicates or other errors to provide ongoing appropriate interdepartmental communication and monthly or daily data reports. Monitors for timely and accurate completion of select data elements. Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets. Monitors data statistics.Knowledge
Knowledge and technical expertise regarding data models and database design development. Understanding of XML and SQL. Proficient knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point. Knowledge of SAS, SPSS, or other statistical packages is desirable.Skills
