Job Summary
The Precision Health (PH) Community Outreach Coordinator is the key support role fostering the growth and engagement of this cohort under the direction of the Director of Cohort Development. This individual will be responsible for developing strategic relationships in various communities to develop and implement a community engagement program for Precision Health. These activities may involve establishing new partnerships with other communities'/health systems, effectively developing education and outreach programs to recruit participants into MGI and other PH related studies and establishing programs to engage enrolled participants in further program participation.

Who We Are
Precision Health is a presidential initiative within the university that engages faculty across the entire campus in aspects of Precision Health discovery, translation, implementation and policy research. Precision Health is a start-up project with internal funding for three years and a goal to raise significant additional funds through the UM Development Office and the leadership of President Schlissel. The Precision Health focuses on a set of specific use cases as well as creates tools, data sets and services accessible to faculty to assist their individual and collective research efforts. A key existing asset of this initiative that will be purposefully expanded is the patient cohort and associated data that Precision Health researchers will access.

Responsibilities*
Implement a strategy and plan to maintain and deepen PH community ties in alignment with organizational priorities
Develop, expand and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders and collaborate internally to support these partnerships
Coordinate Community Outreach in all aspects of education and recruitment, with an emphasis on minority recruitment and retention
Recruit and retain participants into MGI, PH research activities, and related studies
Responsible for consenting activities, including garnering interest, scheduling sites, and potential participants, explaining details of MGI and PH research studies, and consenting individuals to participate in research activities, depending on eligibility
Seek out new communities for possible educational and research recruitment and retention endeavors and establish and maintain relationships with individuals in these communities. Serve as resource person to these communities and follow up on all interested individuals in PH research activities
Work with Cohort Development Workgroup to retain participants through various means, including, presentations, and study update communications
Establishes and Coordinate participant outreach and engagement activities
Plan and coordinate participant panels and other methods of eliciting participant input
Coordinates the scheduling of all presentations and participation in health fairs (including but not limited to creating flyers, making copies, and presentation folders, arranging catering, finalizing dates of talks and consent dates)
Coordinate and implement mailings for recruitment, education, and retention programs.
Collaborate with internal and external organizations to create larger scale events
Maintains an organized, well-labeled file for study recruitment, education, and retention materials. Assist in the creation and distribution of yearly newsletters for MGI
Identify and assess existing impediments to study participation among minority participants and develop initiatives to address these challenges and barriers that have resulted in minority populations being underrepresented in studies
Develop and implement long-range policies and procedures to eliminate barriers to participation in studies such as access, language, culture, literacy and distrust, ensuring that eligible minority and other underrepresented populations are informed about and invited to participate in relevant studies
Develop methods of communication with minority patients about research trials
Required Qualifications*
A bachelor's degree in a social science or related field and 1 or more years of research, recruitment, or community outreach experience or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience where the required knowledge, skills and abilities have been acquired.
Experience in retention techniques for longitudinal community research a plus. Experience working with diverse communities preferred.
Requires an understanding of research studies involving human subjects including the process of obtaining informed consent and the ethical considerations of study participation
Must be able to effectively communicate the complexities of each research study to potential participants.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills are required.
Excellent organizational skills and word processing skills are required
Requires the ability to use time effectively with only minimal direction
Significant local travel required
Background Screening
